Pilates Pre-Certification Program

It is very important that you first be a student of Pilates before entering a certification program. We require that you be at an Intermediate level of Pilates before entering the instructor-training program. For those of you who are not yet at this level, we will design a pre-certification program that includes private and group lessons and will prepare you to enter the training process. The time and cost of this will vary as it depends upon your level of experience coming into the pre-certification process. We highly recommend being injury-free to begin this program.

Sample Pre-Cert Schedule:

1 Private lesson a week for 12 weeks
2 Mat classes a week for 12 weeks
1 Equipment class a week for 12 weeks

Mat I Certification
Intro thru Intermediate Pilates Mat
110 hours

This course is designed for those of you who seek instruction and teacher training up to the intermediate level Pilates Mat work. The course work and apprentice hours for this occur in the spring over the course of 4 lecture weekends (see dates below).

Pre-requisites:
1. Mind body movement experience
2. One year movement teaching experience is useful
3. 20 Pilates Mat classes completed with at least 10 at Streamline Pilates

Course Description:
Mat Certification I includes the history and philosophy of Pilates, the underlying principles and goals of Pilates, all Pilates Mat exercises levels Intro through Intermediate, basic functional anatomy, movement assessment skills, teaching tools and techniques, and how to pace and progress clients. Final tests will include: teaching practical, performance practical, history and philosophy test, and anatomy test.

Basic Functional Anatomy:
This 10-hour course introduces the planes of movement in anatomical terms, the bones, and the muscles taught functionally through the eyes of a movement instructor. The fascial lines in the body and their effect will also be discussed. If you have not had any anatomy or kinesiology experience, it is recommended that you take this course to prepare for your Anatomy test. If you have had a course in anatomy and/or kinesiology, you may choose to opt out of this class and work from the study guide to prepare for the anatomy test. Those students may choose to attend the anatomy review.

Mat II Certification
Intermediate thru Advanced Pilates Mat
85 hours

Mat II follows Mat I. Upon completion, you will have Full Pilates Mat Certification. You will review the intermediate level mat material and learn the advanced mat repertoire. The course work and apprentice hours for this occur in the fall over 4 lecture weekends (see dates below).

1. Mat I Certification or other pre-approved training program
2. Able to execute Intermediate Level Mat work
3. 10 Advanced Pilates Mat classes at Streamline

Course Description:
Mat II Certification includes all of the Pilates Mat exercises. There will be review, as necessary, of the material up through the intermediate level and then a detailed look at all the advanced mat exercises. Teaching techniques explored are effective verbal cuing, appropriate partnering and assisting and skills of group teaching at this level. Honor to the philosophy and principles of Mr. Pilates will always be maintained. Final tests will include: teaching practical, performance practical, and history/philosophy and anatomy test if these have not already been taken.

Intermediate Pilates Certification (6 months)

This program covers the Mat, Universal Reformer, Cadillac, Low Chair, Barrels and miscellaneous Pilates equipment Intro to Intermediate levels. We meet in the spring for 4 lecture weekends, and the program involves a guided apprenticeship.

1. Accomplished at Intermediate Pilates in the Mat and Reformer
2. Audition or submission of performance DVD

Course Description:
This course is designed for those of you who cannot undertake the full-year program or who wish to take time to absorb and integrate a full certification in two phases. This is the first phase, and this certification will enable you to confidently teach Pilates at the Intermediate level. In 4 lecture weekends in the spring, we will review in detail all Pilates exercises on all of the equipment from basic to intermediate level. We will cover basic functional anatomy, how to assess a body and how it moves, how to design a Pilates lesson, how to pace and progress a client, and practice teaching skills and techniques. Then after you have had time to digest and teach with this material, you can choose to return for the second course, Advanced Studies Pilates, immediately or in the future.

Advanced Pilates Certification (6 months)
Intermediate thru Advanced Pilates

The Advanced Pilates Certification covers the Mat, Universal Reformer, Cadillac, Low Chair, Barrels and miscellaneous equipment Intermediate thru Advanced levels. This course can be considered the second half to the Intermediate Certification. We meet in the fall for 4 lecture weekends, and the course involves a guided apprenticeship.

Pre-requisites:
1. Intermediate Pilates Certification (includes all of the equipment) with Streamline or equivalent pre-approved training program
2. One year’s teaching experience
3. Accomplished at Intermediate Pilates

Course Description:
This course is the natural progression after having accomplished the Intermediate Certification with Streamline. For those of you certified by another training program, the Advanced Studies course may serve as an excellent review and continuation of prior studies. It will provide you with new insight. Our fall months at Streamline are devoted to bring one’s teaching skills to more advanced and vibrant levels. We adhere to the principles of Joseph Pilates and guide our classes and clients toward natural, flowing movement patterns. We explore new verbal cues and hands-on teaching techniques. We learn how to partner and progress a client using the appropriate levels and layers within the Pilates Method. We will combine all of the above skills and become fluid in the teaching hour.

Comprehensive Pilates Certification (12 months)

This is our most comprehensive teacher training program that covers the Mat, Universal Reformer, Cadillac, Low Chair, Barrels and miscellaneous Pilates equipment from Basic to Advanced levels. We meet in the spring for 4 lecture weekends and again in the fall for 4 more lecture weekends. The year also involves a guided apprenticeship.

Course Description:
This comprehensive program is based upon the classical Pilates repertoire where emphasis will be placed upon learning to teach Pilates at a very accomplished level to individual bodies. In addition to the full repertoire of Pilates exercises, we will cover fundamental concepts, basic anatomy and kinesiology, assessment skills, teaching techniques and pertinent reading material. Our small class size and one-on-one coaching throughout the year supports the high standard we intend to achieve as certified teachers. At year’s end, graduates proficiently teach well-designed private lessons, mat classes and small group equipment classes of all levels, and the candidate will perform Intro through Advanced Pilates on all of the equipment. Successful completion of comprehensive written, teaching and performance exams will be required for certification. Additionally, students are prepared to take the certification exam given by The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) should they choose.

Mentoring Program—Individual and personalized program that covers your choice of topics and concepts in Pilates. This is intended for the already trained and certified instructor who wishes to take one’s abilities as a teacher to the next level. This program can be taken throughout the year. Please inquire if you are interested in this.

We also offer Streamline as a “host” studio for trainees doing their training elsewhere. We can offer trainees observation hours, lessons, classes, lecture hours and the use of the studio for personal workouts and practice teaching. All subject to studio availability. Costs vary depending upon individual needs and levels of studio use. A customized program will be set up for each individual.
